In 2019, Telemundo opened its new headquarters in Miami, Florida. It is the largest single-building television production studio development ever built in North America and includes production and editing rooms, stages, a new newsroom, and the Telemundo executive suite. MRD designed the interior lighting in all of these spaces including analysis of daylight contribution and the integration of dynamic color changing feature lighting in the main lobby area.
The ceiling and lighting design in the newsroom flies through the space connecting the public and presentation volumes. From the newsrooms, journalists are able to comment and present on the news from their workstations requiring the lighting throughout the newsrooms to meet broadcasting standards and also integrate theatrical and color changing elements. MRD’s design was a modular building block providing the flexibility to meet complex technical needs and perform predictable general lighting as you moved away from the pulse of the newsroom.
The facility is peppered with a variety of support spaces including breakout areas, support offices, conference rooms, production and editing studios, dressing rooms, and prop archives. MRD’s design ensured all spaces were lighted to meet industry standards with a rational breadth of specifications for the maintenance team to manage.
